What is Lilo & Stitch?
Disney's live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch is set to premiere on May 23, 2025, bringing the beloved 2002 animated classic to a new generation. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), the film follows the heartwarming story of Lilo, a young Hawaiian girl, and her unexpected friendship with Stitch, an alien experiment designed for destruction.
Newcomer Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo, with Sydney Elizabeth Agudong as her sister Nani, and Chris Sanders reprising his role as the voice of Stitch. The cast also includes Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, and Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles.
The first trailer showcases Stitch's crash landing on Earth and his adventures with Lilo, staying true to the themes of family, love, and ‘ohana. However, some changes—such as the reimagining of certain side characters—have sparked discussion among longtime fans. Despite this, the film aims to recapture the charm of the original while introducing a fresh perspective, blending nostalgia with modern storytelling.
